Buying Makeup Shouldn’t Be Hard!

Welcome to the wonderful world of makeup! Who knew that there could be so many products that are specifically used for certain things. When I first started this journey I honestly thought primer and foundation were basically the same thing. They both went on my face and they both had the same consistency in texture. Makeup companies merely boosted my bogus theory when they created tinted primers.

I do know that they are two different things to be used for two different reasons. Being knowledgeable of what each item is to be used for was the least of my worries. Picking out brands and colors was an entire different galaxy of questions.

Certain things you will only learn in time by trial and error, but I would like to help you a little in these beginning stages. Makeup shopping should not be hard and I will not be if you follow these few tips.

Tips To Follow When Shopping For Makeup

1.Expiration Date: Most liquid and powdered foundations have a standard year from manufactured expiration date. It’s hurtful to say that retailers will keep expired (or almost there) makeup on their shelves, but it’s true. There is nothing good that will come out of buying old makeup. You’ll only get clumpy or watery products and it’s almost certain that you’ll receive a skin breakout once you use it. A lot of stores attempt to mask the age of an item by placing it at an unbelievably low price. I’ve known of some retailers to drop prices when the item is discontinued or they have a huge back stock as well. Always check the expiration date when buying discounted makeup to decide if it’s worth it or not before buying.

Always Try Out Different Brands

2.Buying DUPES:  I get it. You’d prefer to trust that a more expensive brand will satisfy you more than a cheaper value brand. Never be afraid to buy alternatives. To a certain extent, we all follow this logic. When it comes to the cosmetic world you’d be surprised by how closely in comparison some of these products are. For example: I love using the Climax mascara in explicit black by NARS. It’s currently $24 at Sephora. On the other hand, I tried the Lash sensational mascara in blackest black by Maybelline and I really love it! The lash brushes are not the same, but I get the same effect. Another important thing to add is that it’s only a measly $6.99 on Amazon today. Experience other brands and possibly save some dollars

3.Priority Items First:  With so many different products and colors coming out daily from makeup brands all over the world, it can be tempting not to by every single one that comes out. Hold that thought before you spend all of your money! You just bought a huge eye-shadow palette two weeks ago that you’ve barely touched. Is it really necessary for you to buy another one from another brand just because it’s new? NOPE. Rule of thumb. Try to ONLY buy the items that you’ve ran out of or products that you’ll soon need to replace.

Follow these 3 tips and I promise you’ll feel better about your next trip to Ulta or Sephora!
